The police are investigating reports of a planned execution of Director General of Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) Claudette Rogers after the alleged hitman revealed the plot to his target.
A source within MARAD told this newspaper on Saturday that Rogers’ life had indeed been threatened, reportedly by another employee of the company.
According to the source, about two weeks ago Rogers had been preparing to leave Guyana for a training seminar in Belize. The plot was revealed when a man turned up at Rogers’ home sometime before her departure and informed her that he had been hired to execute her. The man also stated that he had been hired by an employee within MARAD.
Rogers took the allegations seriously and immediately gave a statement to the police. The alleged hitman also willingly gave a statement on the matter.
According to the source, the employee accused of hiring the man was also sent on leave as the investigations continue.
When contacted, Crime Chief Leslie James told Stabroek News that he was aware of a report being made. He added that the police had been “speaking with someone” and are still investigating. All attempts to contact Rogers proved futile.
