Western Tigers sent a strong warning to the field, downing Futsal heavyweights Flamingo 4-0 in their group-A encounter when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer Futsal championships commenced on Saturday.
Played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, Phillip Rowley opened the scoring for the winners in the third minute of the 24-minute fixture with a simple finish to the empty goal after receiving a right side pass from Stellon David unchallenged within the area. It would then become 2-0 six minutes later as Flamingo conceded an unfortunate own goal following defender Quincy Bourne striking the ball into the right hand corner after attempting to clear off the goal line an initial Rensford Coleridge effort that was parried by the custodian.
Solomon Austin would then add to their lead in the 14th minute, placing his first time strike into the lower right hand corner, after collecting a left side pass just within the right side of the area. The win would then be sealed in the 17th minute as Flamingo conceded another own goal following Shem Porter inadvertently directing his attempted clearance of a right side pass down the middle of the goal.
Defending champs Fruta Conquerors also got their campaign off to the perfect start, crushing Black Pearl 7-1 in their group-A showdown.
Dwayne Lawrence broke the early deadlock in the fourth minute for the Tucville outfit, stabbing his right footed effort into the back of the net after pouncing on a loose ball from the Black Pearl custodian.
Kareem Knights would then increase their lead three minutes later, lashing his effort under the advancing custodian into the middle of the net from the right side of the field. Knights would then seal his first half double with a finish to the left corner in the 12th minute.
The score would then balloon to 4-0 in the 17th minute compliments of a Keith Fletcher volleyed effort from the centre of the field, which went straight through the hands of the custodian and into the left hand corner.
Oswald Cornette would then become the first goalkeeper to score in the event one minute later as he rifled a powerful right footed attempt from his own penalty area into the top left hand corner of the net.
On the receiving end for the entire matchup, Black Pearl would eventually pull one back in the 21st minute through a Michael Frank finish to the lower right corner, after collecting a left side pass from a freekick.
However, Eon Alleyne would restore the Tucville side’s five-goal lead one minute later, netting compliments of a penalty kick strike to the lower right corner, following a rash challenge within the centre of the box.
Knights would then seal the easy win in the 23rd minute with a powerfully struck effort from just outside the centre of the box into the lower left hand corner.
In other results, Alpha United overcame Beacons by a 4-1 margin in their group-B fixture. Ronson Williams, Aldair Paredes, Daniel Wilson and Jamal Codrington netted in the 15, 20th, 21st and 22nd minutes respectively for ‘the Hammers’.
Giving the losers the initial lead was Darren Harris in the 10th minute. The second fixture in the group between Renaiss-ance FC and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was rescheduled. In group-C, Pele FC blanked Northern Rangers 5-0 led by a Godfrey Powers double in the 16th and 18th minutes.
Netting solo efforts in the fifth, ninth and 19th minutes were Okeene Fraser, Keoma Gravesande and Joshua Kamal respectively. The second match of the group saw Mocha-based unit Riddim Squad thumping the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by a 6-0 margin.
Amos Ramsay led the way with a hat trick in the fourth, seventh and 17th minutes while Stephon Ramsay netted in the 19th and 22nd minutes. Completing the score line was Orville Stewart who netted in the 13th minute. In group-D, a Gavin Wilson hat trick in the 10th, 13th and 23rd minutes as well as a Andy Duke double in the seventh and 16th minutes, powered Santos to a 5-1 thrashing of Black Water FC. Scoring for the losers was Stephon Christopher in the 20th minute through a penalty kick.
Continuing in the same section, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) shot down Houston Stars 3-1. Randy Carroll led the lawmen with a double in the second and eighth minutes while Junior Gordon netted in the seventh minute. Registering his side’s only goal in the ninth minute was Leon Kennedy. Prior to the commencement of the event, a march past featuring the participating teams occurred. The action is slated to continue at the same venue tomorrow with another eight fixtures.
