An early morning collision claimed the life of Bennett Beveney, after a truck allegedly swerved into the path of his motorcycle, at Montrose Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD), yesterday.
The truck driver remains in police custody, assisting with investigations, while Beveney’s pillion rider was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where she had been receiving treatment.
Beveney, 54, of lot 146, Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, ECD, succumbed to his injuries at the GPH, after being transported there for treatment.
The pillion rider, Alicia Penheiro, of Enterprise, ECD was discharged from the hospital, following a brief admittance.
According to a police press release, the police are investigating the fatal accident which occurred yesterday around 02:15 hrs.
The release said investigations revealed that Beveney and Penheiro were proceeding along the Railway Embankment when a motor lorry which was proceeding in the opposite direction, swerved in front of them, resulting in a collision.
Beveney was pronounced dead on arrival at the GPH.
Roy Beveney told Stabroek News that his father was taking a female friend home, when he was killed. When contacted Penheiro declined comment on the accident.
The driver of the lorry is in police custody, assisting with investigations.
