Mavado goes to the movies

(Jamaica Observer) MAVADO is featured on two songs for the soundtrack to the movie Beyond the Lights which is scheduled for release by the Relativity Music Group on November 11.

The singjay collaborates with Trinidad-born born rapper Nicki Minaj on both tracks — Give it All to Me and C’mon Boy.

Released last year, Give it All to Me is produced by JA Productions. It was a hit locally and did well on Caribbean charts on the United States’ east coast.

C’mon Boy is produced by American producer/singer Terius Youngdell Nash, better known as The-Dream.

Also featured on the 13-track soundtrack are Blackbird by India Jean-Jacques, Grateful (Rita Ora), Worthy (Jacob Banks), Shelter (Birdy), Lights and Camera (Yuna), Extraordinary Love (Stacy Barthe), and Masterpiece by Nono featuring Kid Culprit.

Beyond the Lights was directed and written by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Minnie Driver, Nate Parker, Danny Glover and Machine Gun Kelly. It was filmed in Los Angeles last year.

The film centres on Noni Jean played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who is a hot new artist primed for superstardom, but the pressures of success drive her to contemplate suicide. She is saved by a young police officer, Kaz Nicols (Nate Parker), who has political ambitions.

The film premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. It is set for theatrical release in the United States November 14.
