The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)-funded sea and river defence project yesterday received bids for consultancy services for the project’s final design and construction supervision.
According to the CDB, the Government of Guyana has received financing from the bank equivalent to US$25 million towards the cost of the project and they intend to apply a portion of the proceeds of this financing to eligible payments for contracts under the project.
The project aims to protect a number of communities from flooding and other hazards brought on by the effects of climate change.
Components of the project include the reconstruction and improvement of approximately 5.4 km of sea and river defences, as well as for capacity in shoreline change monitoring and analysis.
The project will also include a Community Awareness and Education Programme.
The project will involve 20 rural communities in Regions 2, 3, 4 and 6 along the coastline and in Leguan Island which is in the Essequibo estuary. These communities have a combined population of about 45,000 people in about 9,000 households.
With the Ministry of Public Works being the implementing agency for the project, bids were received from three firms.
The names of the companies and their respective bids are shown in the table below.
