In the midst of the discussion on whether or not the AFC should agree to a pre-election coalition with APNU, I found a blogger to a SN article on the matter who came up with the best suggestion yet. Most people agree that a coalition would be detrimental to the AFC, but the concern is that in a three-legged race there will be no change in the outcome. I personally had suggested that the ordinary people see the realities and they should make the shift to the AFC if they think there is a need for a different outcome given there are glaring indications that the APNU is shut out of the equation;
The blogger suggested the following;
I have a solution to all of this mistrust/distrust between APNU and AFC.
* prior agreement must be entered to urgently amend the present Constitution to avoid all these current manifold issues.
*Hughes /Moses as presidential candidate; let AFC decide.
*Granger as Minister of Security and Defence (we need someone to restore the professionalism and discipline in that sector)
* Greenidge as Prime Minister.
*Ramjattan as Attorney general.
*Trotman as speaker once his personal matter is satisfactorily resolved.
* A female as Minister of health and another one for Education.
All egos must be placed on the back-burner and Guyana’s future first.
Editor, I find this to be a very credible plan. I love every aspect except the blogger did not say if it is a coalition. For me, it cannot be a coalition. This is how I see it – APNC in the interest of Guyana and the people is willing to let the AFC take the lead in the next elections. As such we will ask our supporters to vote/support for the AFC. In/for that support we ask that our traditional supporters be represented so we are suggesting Greenidge as the prime minister candidate, etc, etc. The presidential candidate will be whoever the AFC decides and we seek no control of the AFC except that they consider some of our parliamentarians if successful.
It means that APNU agrees to hold off on their aspirations at the next elections and gives critical support to the AFC. It will not kill the organizations/parties that make up APNU but hopefully this arrangement can break the stalemate that has been Guyana’s politics. I know this is not as simple as it sounds but it is a credible suggestion.
One question will be parliamentary seats. Can APNU give critical support and still contest the elections? Questions, questions and more questions. But surely there will be no harm in having a discussion. Most important for me is a commitment to fix the constitution, which has been shown to have a lot of flaws. Anything for the development of Guyana. What do you say?
