When Jason Adams appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday, he was immediately escorted back out again, after he repeatedly threatened to kill Jerome Fernandes, one of three men he was accused of robbing.
Adams, 23, of 58 Lime Street, Werk-en-Rust was accused of committing a series of robberies between October 29 and November 2. During the period, Adams allegedly robbed Cao Yuyi, Jerome Fernandes and Iftekaz Aziz while using violence.
It was also alleged that he attempted to rob Ki Yang Jiang, but was unsuccessful.
Yuyi was robbed at Bourda Street, Georgetown. He was relieved of his shoulder bag valued $3,000, 2 Chinese passports, $50,000 and 3 cellphones valued at $100,000. The court was told that after Adams finished mugging Yuyi, he then went on to beat him.
Fernandes was robbed on November 1 at Bourda Market. It is alleged that Adams broke into his stall and stole a pair of earrings valued $100,000 and 4 bird cages valued at $26,000.
Aziz was robbed at North Road, Bourda. The accused was reportedly armed with a scissors, which he used to threaten Jiang, who was then relieved of $18,000 and 1 BlackBerry cellphone valued $30,000.
The court heard too that Adams assaulted Jiang at Cummings Street on November 2 with intentions to rob him.
Because the charges were indictable, the man was not required to plead.
Attorney Paul-Fung-A-Fat who represented Adams asked the court to consider bail, saying that his client “has not committed a crime in a very long time. He must be a very busy man to commit all these crimes on the same day,” he added. Continuing to plead, for his client, Fung-A-Fat said, “He suffers from his nerves, one time he’s ok and the next time he loses it.”
The lawyer then asked the magistrate to order an investigation because he is aware that the man was beaten on his hand by the police.
Magistrate McLennan asked Adams if this was true and he responded, “Yes, the police beat meh and the stall owner to.”
Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail on the grounds that violence was used in all of the robberies; that the accused threatened one of the complainants in open court and the number of robberies that transpired in the short time span.
Magistrate McLennan denied bail and Adams left the courtroom shouting angrily, “When I come out of here I gonna kill every (expletive) body.”
The matter is to be called again on November 20.
