Dear Editor,
On August 4, I wrote a letter to your daily newspaper highlighting a few observations concerning the manner in which a contractor was de-silting the Church Street canal with the hope that someone in authority who might have been overseeing such work would have at least remedied it; however, this did not happen.
Subsequently, I have noted similar comments being made by citizens concerning the same quality of work being carried out in the de-silting of our main drainage canals.
However, as we saunter into another month and we approach yet another rainy season, no work has yet been done in the South or North Cummingsburg areas or even Regent Street. What makes a citizen different from another whose area has been cleaned? Are we not at all entitled to a clean environment? It is a known fact that these areas are prone to heavy flooding as soon as the rain falls.
We speak of tourism, but yet we are failing to clean the heart of the city.
So as I make this final appeal to the powers that be, please I beg of you please clear the alleyways of the following areas: between Carmichael and Waterloo Streets, Waterloo and Camp Streets, the alleyways running east to west between Regent and Robb Streets and all those that I had forgotten to mention in Georgetown. Upon achieving this task then you can safely say that we have cleaned up Guyana. And lastly, what about all those homeless persons on Regent Street by Bourda Market?
