A Raymond Austin five-goal haul propelled title holders St. Pius Primary to their second consecutive finals’ appearance, in the process embarrassing Tucville Primary 6-1 in their semi-final encounter of the Petra Organization/ Courts Pee football tourney yesterday.
Played at the Thirst Park venue, Austin pushed St. Pius into the early lead as he opened the scoring in the second minute with a strike to the lower left corner, from the right side of the penalty box.
He would then make his presence felt once more two minutes later, finishing his right footed attempt into the lower right corner from the right side of the box, after outmuscling his marker upon latching onto a through pass.
The lanky forward would then seal his first half-hat trick in the ninth minute, stabbing his right footed effort down the centre of the goal from within the left side of the area.
Selwyn Jones would then complete a flawless first half period for the defending champs in the 11th minute compliments of a powerful finish to the lower left corner, from the centre of the 18 yard area.
The shell-shocked Tucville side would eventually open their account in the 21st minute as Keion Marques netted through a penalty kick conversion to the right hand corner, following a handball infraction within the area.
However, Tucville’s recent success would be a brief relief to the ensuing carnage as Austin sealed his helmet trick with a powerfully struck right sided strike into the left hand side of the goal in the 24th minute.
He would then seal his side’s path to the final in the 29th minute with a clinical finish down to the left side of the goal, following a one-on-one situation with the opposing goalkeeper within the centre of the penalty box.
With the win, St. Pius will now match skills with dark horses Stella Maris Primary in grand finale after the Woolford Avenue side defeated South Ruimveldt Primary 3-1 on penalty kicks in the second semi-final. The resulting score line at the end of normal and extra time was 0-0. In the positions 5-8 plate section, West Ruimveldt crushed St. Margaret’s by a 3-0 margin through goals from Michael Oie, Kurt Carrington and Justin Persaud in the 12th, 35th and 38th minutes correspondingly. F.E. Pollard humbled St. Angela’s by a 2-0 score in the sixth fixture of the matchday. An own goal and an Immel McCurdy strike in the third and 28th minutes correspondingly separated the two schools.
In the positions 9-16 plate section, Enterprise Primary came from behind to defeat Ketley Primary 2-1. Martin King led the winners with a double in the 20th and 27th minutes correspondingly.
Netting for the losers in the 15th minute was Kevin Mulling.
In the third matchup of the card, East La Penitence overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat St. Stephen’s 14-13 on sudden death kicks after normal time finished 2-2.
Fabian Boters netted a double for East La Penitence in the 27th and 29th minutes while Ronaldo Forde and Hosea Parkinson was on target in a losing cause in the fourth and 17th minutes respectively. The second fixture of the matchday saw Smith Memorial downing Marian Academy 3-1. Omalli Harry registered a double in the 14th and 18th minutes for the winners while Jermar Haynes netted in the 39th minute. Scoring for Marian Academy in the fourth minute was Allister Phyll. In the fourth matchup, Green Acres edged North Georgetown by a 1-0 score line compliments of a Linford Isles 26th minute conversion.
