Berbice Football Association (BFA) president Clay Flatts said his association is willing to participate in the Kashif and Shanghai tourney once it is approved by the GFF Normalisation Committee and as such, is not in preparation to stage a yearend event.
Speaking exclusively with Stabroek Sports Flatts said: “We have not done anything to such. We have received invitation from the Kashif and Shanghai organization and we are waiting on confirmation from the federation (Normalization Committee) to see if it will go through.”
He added: “If there is no confirmation I won’t allow any of the teams to partake in the tournament. We don’t normally host a yearend tournament and we are normally a part of the Kashif and Shanghai and the GFA Banks Beer tournament”.
Asked if the possibility exists that the association could host an event if the Kashif and Shanghai tourney is not approved, he said “We have looked at something but we haven’t decided if we will do it.
“We have discussed to have a tournament but we haven’t done anything yet. All the senior teams have been invited to participate in the Kashif and Shanghai tournament.”
He noted that if the Kashif and Shanghai tournament is not granted permission, his association can put things together to host an event in a short period of time. However, he declared that would only be a last minute option.
Questioned why he believes some of the associations are deciding to host their own yearend tournaments, Flatts said:”It’s to satisfy their fans and generate their own income.”
