In light of the recent increase in road fatalities, West Demerara Road Safety Association Chairman, Shahab Hack has appealed for greater care.
According to a press release from the West Demerara Road Safety Association, there has been a total of 19 death for the year thus far, four of which were children. More recently, there were three deaths during the last six days. Hack said, the association has been working closely with the traffic police ranks to stem the tides of serious accidents.
The association urged road users to practise the 5 c’s –care, courtesy, common sense, consideration and caution in order to minimise the loss of lives.
In addition, the association has been targeting cases of excessive speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, irresponsible use of the roadways by pedestrians and problems of poor or no lighting along a number of roads. The association also encouraged pedestrians to move away from wearing dark clothing at nights which impedes visibility.
