A pensioner was on Tuesday remanded to prison after he was charged with being found with a quantity of cannabis at his shop in the North West District.
Adjoodhie Persaud, 69, appeared at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Courts on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The charge against Persaud is that on November 10, at the North West District, he had in his possession 38 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, the police at Mabaruma received certain information and went to Persaud’s shop. At the time, he was the only person in the shop. They conducted a search, which led to the discovery of the narcotics in a plastic bag, the prosecutor said, before adding that Persaud was then arrested and charged.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court for November 17.
