APNU meets western missions

Representatives of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) led by the Leader of the Opposition, Brigadier David Granger today met with diplomats from the United States of America, Britain, Canada, and the European Union. The meeting which was requested by the diplomats was held at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition 61 Cross and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown.

A release from APNU said that the discussions were cordial, and centred mainly on the prorogation of the Parliament of Guyana. APNU iterated its position that there will be no extra parliamentary engagement with the President on the matters which were before the National Assembly, and that the Partnership will embark upon a series of measures dedicated to the restoration of the National Assembly as the most appropriate venue for the discussion and consideration of affairs of the state and the people.

Present at the meeting were Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, Bryan David Hunt; British High Commissioner, Andrew Ayre; Canadian High Commissioner, Nicole Giles; and European Union Ambassador to Guyana, Robert Kopecky.

APNU was represented by Leader of the Opposition, David Granger; Deputy Chairman, APNU, Dr Rupert Roopnaraine; General Secretary, APNU, Joseph Harmon; and Local Government Shadow Minister, Ronald Bulkan.
