Dear Editor,
We Guyanese are following with eager anticipation the unfolding of this national drama before our very eyes. It is time for all honest, loyal, patriotic Guyanese to come on-stage under one banner, and fight corruption, domination, nepotism, and everything that runs counter to national development and progress. This is no time for foolishness disguised as party politics. Our legacy to posterity is in jeopardy.
And to those die-hard party stalwarts who blindly follow along because of race, habit or fear, to them I say, our past leaders, both Cheddi Jagan and Forbes Burnham, despite their imperfections, loved this country. They would hardly have sat idly by and watched as everything that promotes national progress – honesty, integrity, equity, accountability, transparency – is sidelined or ignored. Enough is enough! This is a call to all right-thinking Guyanese for unity and involvement. Sitting on the fence is not an option. Let’s be on the right side of divine wisdom that declared, even in the context of the dubious project of building the Tower of Babel: “…If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them” (Genesis 11: 6 NIV).
Yours faithfully,
Claudia Heywood
