Defending champs Fruta Conquerors were bundled out of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer Futsal Championships as they were hammered 6-2 by Alpha United on Thursday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Daniel Wilson gave the defending champs the early lead 47 seconds into the matchup with a strike into the lower left corner from the right side of the field.
However, Alpha would level the score line in the fifth minute through a Travis `Zorro’ Grant strike to the lower right corner, following a counterattack.
The ‘Hammers’ would then take the lead for the first time in the fixture in the 14th minute as Aldair Paredes netted down the centre of the net, after receiving a left side cross within the right side of the area.
Dwight Peters would then make his presence felt for Alpha in the 16th minute, rifling a right footed attempt into the top left corner from the centre of the box, that gave custodian Oswald Cornette no chance.
Seven minutes later Alpha would make it 4-1 as Paredes grabbed his second with a left footed strike from the right side of the field, which went through the hands of the goalkeeper and into the lower left corner.
Odel Williams would then pull one back for the defending champs in the 24th minute, directing an initial Eon Alleyne freekick attempt from within the left side of the box, into the back of the goal.
However, that would prove to be the closest the Tucville side would get to overturning the score line as Kris Camacho scored in the 28th minute compliments of a left sided strike, that went through the grasp of the keeper and down the middle of the net.
The win would then be sealed in the 29th minute through a sublime Grant finish to the right hand corner of the goal, after skipping past his marker just within the left side of the penalty area.
With the win, Alpha United will now faceoff with Western Tigers in the semi-final matchup today at the same venue. Also clinching their berth to the semi-final stage were Santos FC who edged arch-rivals Pele by a 1-0 score line.
Gavin Wilson separated the two sides as he netted the fastest goal in the tournament in four seconds, lashing his left sided strike into the lower right hand corner after it took a slight deflection off a defender.
Due to the victory, Santos will now tackle Mocha based side Riddim Squad in the second semi-final affair today. In the earlier exhibition matchups, the Media dismantled the Referees by a 5-0 margin while the GFA All-Stars brushed aside the youthful Lady Diva Flames 6-1.
The final exhibition matchup of the night saw Masters Team Yellow defeating Masters Team White by a 3-2 score line.
