The condition of the 20-year-old taxi driver who was shot while plying his trade at Boerasirie, East Bank Essequibo around 9 pm on Saturday was said to be stable yesterday.
Ramesh Persaud of Parika Backdam was transporting a passenger when he was shot to the left ear and to the back of his head. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal in a critical condition.
His father, Lokenauth told this newspaper that a scan proved that one of the bullets exited while the other was still lodged. At the time no surgery had been performed.
Persaud who operated a private-hire service was at the Parika junction when the man approached him for a ‘special.’
He subsequently called his brother, Roland Persaud, 21, telling him he had been shot. The brother rushed to the scene and found him slouched in the driver’s side of his white AT 212 Carina motorcar PLL 821, covered in blood.
According to a police release, “Initial investigations have revealed that Ramesh Persaud was hired by a man at the Parika Car Park and along the way another man joined the vehicle. He was shot along the roadway at Boerasirie and the men escaped.”
