Dear Editor,
Some strange sounds are emanating from the opposition camp. It is that the opposition is ‘cautious’ about talks with the government. Already? Can this really be happening so quickly? Is this whole business, this whole shabby political week a mere charade? Or to use that very dirty word – conspiracy?
Prior talks were described as “meaningless.” Others spoke rather accurately of democracy made “homeless.” And another went so far as to describe the ruling party as an “ungrateful dog.” All of this surrounded the insult and injury of last Monday’s blitzkrieg of parliament; while not unexpected, still was tantamount to a stab in the back.
Perhaps, the reported opposition ‘cautiousness’ is more of the normalcy in action. At this point, I have some questions that disturb. First, what and where is the invisible hand here? What are the considerations? What is there to talk about, and outside of parliament? On what basis does the political situation metamorphose from thick dark night to inviting comfortable dawn?
Editor, on what basis? And before one can count to three? What is really going on here?
Something smells and it is not pleasant. The people should start preparing to resign themselves. It must be the resignation that relates to a winding down of expectations. Or in Guyanese lingo –the readiness and resignation of yet another ‘wine-down.’
Yours faithfully,
GHK Lall
