Alpha, Riddim Squad reach final

Alpha United and Riddim Squad will contest the finale of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer Futsal Championship, downing Western Tigers and Santos respectively in the semi-final round on Saturday.

Played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, the ‘Hammers’ dismantled Western Tigers by a 5-1 margin while Riddim Squad overcame Santos by a 3-0 score line. They will now faceoff this Saturday at the same venue in the grand final.

In the feature semi-final fixture between Alpha and Western Tigers, the eventual winners would take the early lead under fortuitous circumstances in the sixth minute as a right sided Dwight Peters effort took a sharp deflection off defender Solomon Austin and went into the net.

Peters would then net his second of the night to increase their lead three minutes later, passing his first time right footed effort into the lower right hand corner from the centre of the field, after receiving a right sided Aldair Paredes pass.

Chris Camacho would then make his presence felt one minute later with a powerful strike into the top right hand corner from the left side of the field.

With the scores unchanged for the rest of the half, Western Tigers would pull one back in the 19th minute as Phillip Rowley lashed his flat right footed strike from the centre of the park down the middle of the goal, after the ball went through the hands of custodian Ronson Williams.

However Alpha would immediately respond in the shape of Daniel Wilson who rifled his right sided right footed attempt down the centre of the net one minute later.

Paredes would then hammer the final nail in the coffin in the 30th minute with a simple finish to the empty net after receiving a left sided pass from Wilson following a two-on-one situation with shot-stopper Derick Carter.

Following a score less half due to the woodwork coming to the rescue of both sides on separate occasions, Riddim Squad would take the lead in the 18th minute during the second semi-final affair.

Cutting onto his favoured right foot from the left side of the park, midfielder Sceyon Hope would unleash a thunderbolt of an effort that rifled past custodian Dervin Bennette into the left side of the goal.

Steffon Ramsay would then follow suit for the Mocha based side in the 26th minute, igniting wild celebrations among the Riddim Squad faithful after thumping a flat right footed effort into the lower right corner from the left side of the field.

Their ticket to the title match would then be sealed four minutes later as Ramsay placed an unchallenged strike down the middle of the goal, after receiving a right sided Amos Ramsay (cousin) pass following a pass combination initiated by Teon Jones from a central position.

In the earlier exhibition matches, New Wave Taxi Service ran over Oasis Taxi Service 7-2 while Tigerbay hammered Charlestown 8-4. North Ruimveldt would then blank North East La Penitence 4-0 in the third exhibition match

The final exhibition showdown saw the Media and Lyken Funeral home battling to a 1-1 stalemate.
