A Linden man will be spending the next four months in jail after admitting to an early morning attack on a woman.
Paulette Cowell was attacked on Sunday morning by Marlon France, 28, at Washer Pond Road, Mackenzie, Linden, where she was exercising as she normally does. France, of Christianburg, Mackenzie, Linden, pleaded guilty yesterday to a charge of threatening behaviour when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
According the Prose-cutor Deniro Jones, Cowell was exercising on Washer Pond Road at about 5am, when France approached her and slapped her. He said the man at the time also had a broken bottle in his hand.
France ordered Cowell to lay on the road, Grant said, adding that he then approach her but she managed to hold on to his hand. A scuffle ensued and the bottle fell out of France’s hand and Cowell ran away.
The court heard that France continued to run behind Cowell, who ran to the Mackenzie Police Station and made a report. Cowell later went on a police patrol in search of France and was able to pick him out. He was arrested and charged.
France told the court he was very sorry about what happened and after the magistrate took into consideration all the facts presented he was sentenced to four months in jail.
