A would-be burglar was shot in the groin yesterday after an attempt to break into a Georgetown bar
Courtney Grimmond, the manager of Brazilian sports bar Rockies, said that at about 4.30 am he saw unusual movements at the 43 Light Street, Bourda bar. Upon checking, he observed two persons in hoodies attempting to break the grill.
The man said one of the men escaped while the other proceeded to attack him with an iron bar.
As a result, a shot was fired at his assailant, who was hit in his groin. When the thief fell, he whimpered, “Courtney, ya shoot me.”
Grimmond said he was astonished when he heard his name called.
He subsequently removed the man’s disguise and recognised him immediately. Grimmond said the man is known as “Snake Eyes” in the neighbourhood.
The incident was reported to the Alberttown Police Station and the wounded man, who gave his age as 51, is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital in stable condition. According to Grimmond, the man was arrested before and every time he is held by police he would give a different name.
Grimmond said the area is known for rampant thieving. He said only last month the bar was robbed.
A female cashier was on duty when a man came, stretched his hand through the grill separating customers and employees, and stole $129,000.
The cashier was sleeping at the time but when the cash register was closed she became alerted and caught the man red handed.
He then scampered off but employees heard grass rattling in a nearby yard and an investigation was done that later led to the man being apprehended.
