The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Friday commissioned a $34.5M water treatment plant to provide safer water for both patients and staff at the facility, a release from the Government Information Agency said.
GPHC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Michael Khan said the plant had been in operation for a few days for the purpose of ensuring that it was fully functional.
Khan stated, according to GINA, that the plant which is currently providing 300,000 bottles of water daily for the facility will, in approximately two to three years, pay for itself.
The CEO added that a plant technician has been appointed to ensure the proper maintenance of equipment.
Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran complimented staff of the facility for their hard work.
The renal (dialysis) unit at the hospital is among several on which there will be a direct impact by plant, Ramsaran noted.
