The Alliance For Change (AFC) said Chairman Nigel Hughes delivered an informative and inspiring message which adequately reflected the seriousness of its commitment to joint action, at the APNU rally held at the Square of the Revolution on Friday.
In a press release, the party said Hughes led a high-level team comprising General Secretary David Patterson, Members of Parliament Cathy Hughes, Valerie Garrido-Lowe and Trevor Williams at the event which aimed at educating the citizenry on the issue of prorogation.
“The AFC saw the rally as an opportunity to outline the Party’s position on the need for Constitutional reform as a means of addressing many of the problems affecting governance in our country,” it said.
The party said it appreciates that all its leaders command high respect and admiration from the nation and is confident that its views were adequately delivered by the delegation that participated in the event, it said, in response to queries about the absence of its leader and vice chairman at the rally.
The AFC said both Khemraj Ramjattan and Moses Nagamootoo are fully engaged in the struggle to have Parliament reconvened and democracy restored and it will work respectfully and honourably with all right-thinking Guyanese to address this critical problem.
Further, in pursuit of rescuing Guyana there will be other occasions both political and civic in which the AFC’s public participation will be required and it assured the public that its full team will be engaged as time and work permits.
“We reiterate our commitment to working in a broad-based Pro-Democracy Front with all patriotic political, business, trade union, religious, women, youth, human rights and other civic society organisations to restore parliamentary democracy in Guyana and to continue the fight against creeping dictatorships,” the AFC said.
