The West Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry has elected a new Board of Directors.
According to a release from the group, elections were held last week Tuesday at the Regional Democratic Council Board Room, at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice.
The meeting was presided over by Imran Sacoor, Republic Bank Manager and President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Association of Regional Chambers of Commerce (ARCC), which is the umbrella association for various business chambers in the region. Also present were representatives from the insurance industry, banks, private sector and other small businesses.
Regional Chairman Rabindranauth Bisnauth assumed the post of returning officer for the elections.
Five members were elected to serve; namely, Shabeer Baksh, President; Alvin Chowramootoo, Vice President; Hardat Malchand, Secretary; Ewart Charles Sangster, Treasurer; and Pradeep Bachan, Public Relations Officer.
Baksh said the West Berbice Chamber is expected to embark on a series of projects, such as a West Berbice trade fair to showcase the businesses in Region Five and a proposal to develop Rosignol into a township due to the growth and expansion of business in the area.
Bisnauth assured those gathered that the Regional Democratic Council will collaborate with the board to help move the region forward.
