Construction worker Nigel Reid was yesterday sentenced to seven days imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to battering his common-law wife.
The charge against Reid, 28, is that on November 17th, at North Sophia, he unlawfully assaulted Simone Craig.
Reid pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Court Two.
According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, at about 10pm on the day in question, Reid went home and drank a bottle of alcohol before proceeding to bed, where he found Craig.
Jones said he started to cuff her in the face and all over the body and told her he was going to kill her and their three children.
The prosecutor added that it is a usual occurrence between the couple whenever Reid consumes alcohol.
However, Reid told the court that he went home and he just pushed Craig a little before going to bed.
He added that when he woke up the next day, he saw the police in front of him. “I don’t know what she went and tell them at the station,” he said before apologizing about what happened.
Craig was advised to seek a protection order under the Domestic Violence Act while Reid was sentenced to seven days imprisonment and bonded to keep the peace for twelve months, failing which he would be jailed for three months.
