A security guard was on Friday struck down and killed by a motorcycle on the public road at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, while he was crossing the road to go home.
Dead is 55 year-old Winston Clement of Land of Canaan. According to an eyewitness, Clement, who lived alone on a boat, went to a shop to buy groceries and started drinking.
The eyewitness stated that while he was crossing the road, staggering, a speeding motorcycle “banked the turn and slammed right into him.”
The man said he had yelled at Clement to wait until the road was clear before crossing but he went ahead regardless. The man said that part of the road was prone to accidents.
The accident occurred around 5.30 pm on Friday.
Another eyewitness said she was cleaning fish in her yard when she heard a loud noise on the road. “I run out and I hear people hollering and I thought was my small son because he was on the road at that time with my nephew. But I see when the bike pick he up and fling he in the air and he fell on his face,” the woman said.
