East Coast Football Association (ECFA) President Aubrey Hutson, said his association is prepared to participate in the Kashif and Shanghai tourney once it’s sanctioned and will only host their own yearend event if it doesn’t come to fruition.
Speaking exclusively to Stabroek Sports, Hutson said his association after learning of the Kashif and Shanghai Organization’s desire to host the tourney, has indicated its willingness to participate in the championship, until the organizers state they are no longer prepared to host the event.
Huston stated that following an initial correspondence from the GFF signaling the organization’s intention to host their event, his association held discussions with the entity detailing how the association would like to be represented in the event.
However, he noted the possibility exists if the Kashif and Shanghai tourney is not hosted, that his association can partner with the Berbice and East Bank Football Associations to host a tripartite event during the same timeframe.
Questioned about his thoughts on the decision of several associations to host their own yearend tourney, he said “Being a part of the old school, I always know the yearend tournament is associated with the GFF and the yearend tournament has always been the GFF/Kashif and Shanghai”.
He further said that the respective associations have all year to host their own leagues and knockout tournaments and that the yearend period is normally associated with a sanctioned GFF event. I don’t know what exactly has happened to football in Guyana, they need to be some kind of control” he added.
Asked if he expects the Kashif and Shanghai event be hosted without the services of the Georgetown, West Demerara and Upper Demerara Football Associations, Hutson said he believes the tournament won’t materialize without the bigger affiliates, especially if Georgetown is not a part of the contest.
