Persons who failed to register for the Grand Coastal Golf Tourney which was to be held yesterday will now have another opportunity to register for the tournament which was postponed by the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) due to the inclement weather.
According to David Mohamed, President of the LGC, some 40 golfers have already registered for the tournament which has been rescheduled to this Saturday.
Mohammed took a practical view of the postponement stating that rainfall is expected at this time of the year in Guyana. However, a number of the players were disappointed including some who were looking to redeem themselves after disappointing performances at Guyana’s premier golf tournament, the Guyana Open Golf Tourney.
“The main reason the Guyana Open Golf challenge was shifted from late to early November was due to the expected rainy season, so it was not a surprise. However, the players who want to show their worth after a lacklustre display at the Guyana Open Tourney, they are the ones who are disappointed,” said Mohamed.
The tournament is anticipated to be a keenly contested event which will be played on the open Medal Play system, rather than the Flight system. Up for grabs are trophies for first to third, best net in the male category and best net in the female category, overall best gross and nearest to the pin.
