The Competitiveness Department of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce will soon begin investigating the Guyana Power and Light’s policies for hiring contractors and its consumer security deposit requirements.
The price proposals to provide consultancy services to conduct a review of both practices were yesterday opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB).
Neither GPL’s Chief Executive Officer, Bharat Dindyal nor Minister of Tourism, Irfaan Ali was prepared to explain what prompted the review.
Ali told Stabroek News that he was in a meeting and would have someone from the department call to explain but up to press time this was not done. Dindyal on the other hand said that it would be best for the tourism and commerce ministry to explain as they were the ones responsible for the tender.
The names of the two companies that submitted tenders are shown in the table below.
