Orin Andrew Henry, who was shot during an alleged attempt to break into the Brazilian sports bar Rockies, was yesterday granted $50,000 bail after denying that he was in the midst of committing a crime.
Henry, 61, also known as ‘Snake Eye,’ of 306 South Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempting to commit a felony during an attempt to break and enter the bar of Courtney Grimmond on November 17.
Henry, who is also known as Orin Andrew Thomas, was shot in the groin by Grimmond.
Grimmond had told Stabroek News that at about 4.30 am, he saw unusual movements at the bar and upon checking he observed two persons in hoodies attempting to break the grill. The man said one of the men escaped while the other proceeded to attack him with an iron bar. As a result, a shot was fired at his assailant, who was hit in his groin.
Paul Fung-A-Fat, Henry’s attorney, told the court that his client is a trader and has a wife and four children. Fung-A-Fat also told the court that Henry didn’t have any trouble with the law for the past 13 years. He noted further that nothing was stolen from the virtual complainant and pleaded with the magistrate to be lenient in granting bail.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to bail being granted bail but requested that it be a substantial amount to ensure that he returns for trial.
Magistrate Ann McLennan, then set bail at $50,000 and adjourned the case to December 16, when it will be called at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Six.
