A man was yesterday fined $15,000 and ordered to do three weeks community service after he admitted to being found with a small quantity of cannabis by police.
The charge against Odel Devine, 29, of 22 West Ruimveldt, is that on November 19, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had in his possession 3.5 grammes of cannabis.
Devine pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, police were on duty at West Ruimveldt when they stopped and carried out a search on Devine and they found the narcotics in his right pocket.
Devine told the court that he was very sorry but admitted that he sometimes takes a smoke or two when he has minor problems. “I think I was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” he added.
If he fails to pay the fine or perform the community service at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Devine will be forced to serve five months in jail.
