Guyana Softball Cup 4 champions Wolf Warriors (Open) and Floodlight (Masters) stormed into the finals of the Ramchand/Rohan Auto Spares Softball Tournament.
Both teams proved their mettle with convincing victories in their semi-final matches. Wolf Warriors defeated Farm by six wickets in the semi-finals played at the Police Ground last Sunday. Farm batted first and made 154 for 9 off 20 overs, with Avinash Sookdeo, 25, and Lalta Karim, 22, the top scorers while Narine Bailey took 5-20 bowling for Wolf Warriors. In reply Wolf Warriors made 155-4 off 14.5 overs. Safraz Karim and Lincoln Leander were their principal scorers with unbeaten scores of 46 and 36 respectively. K. Ramkumar took 2-15, bowling for Farm.
In the other Open semi-final Regal got a scare from newcomers Uprisers. Regal won by one wicket to set up a repeat of the “Guyana Softball Cup 4” finals with Wolf Warriors. Uprisers batted first and were bowled out for 149 in 19.5 overs. W. Osborne made 26 and Ejaz Mohamed 18. Balram Roopnarine took 3-26 and Delroy Pereira 2-17 bowling for Regal. Regal replied with 150-9 in 19.1 overs. Rohit Dutchin made 36, S. Budhu 24 and Ricky Sargeant 18 not-out. Bowling for Uprisers Chris Pattadin took 2-24 and V. Mohamed 1-8.
Meanwhile, in the Masters category (40 years and over) Floodlight defeated Parika Defenders by seven wickets. Defenders made 141-9 in 20 overs. Oswald Black 39 and R. Rambharose 30 were the main contributors while Clive Canterbury took 3-20 and Ramchand Ragbeer 2-31 bowling for Floodlights. Floodlights replied with 146-3 in 16 overs with Intiaz Mohamed stroking 59 not out and Ramesh Narine 46 not out. M. Saffie took 2-37 bowling for Defenders.
Slingerz lost to Wellman by 6 wickets. Slingers 119-9 in 20 overs were wrecked by Tony Singh who captured 4-21 and Greig De Franca 2-18 bowling for Wellman. Wellman replied with 120-5 with Latchman Kalicharan 45 not-out and Motilall Chumandat 25 not-out. M. Hafiz claimed 2-22.
The two men’s finals, women’s semi-finals and finals, together with two men’s third place play-offs (Open and Masters) will be played on Saturday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground starting at 10.30am. The four ladies teams scheduled to play are the Trophy Stall Angels versus the Blue Divas and the Karibee Girls against Mike’s Wellwoman. The teams to play in the third place play-off are Uprisers versus Farm (Open) and Parika Defenders against Slingers (Masters).
