Elton Dundas, a miner, was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2 charged with wounding another man with intent to murder him.
The charge against Dundas, 30 of St Cuthbert’s Mission, is that on November 23 at Chinese Creek, Cuyuni River, he wounded Mark Allen with intent to murder him.
Dundas was not required to plead to the indictable charge read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, Allen, who is still hospitalized, suffered several chops about his body and was subsequently transferred from Bartica Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Jones added that after the incident Dundas was handed over to the police by some other miners. However, he continued that Dundas was also a patient at the hospital since he also sustained injuries during the incident but was later discharged.
Dundas, who appeared to be in pain, said, “I ain’t chop nobody. The fella say I chop he but I didn’t. Yuh see what y’all mek,” as he was escorted by a rank after the hearing.
He was remanded to prison and is to make his next court appearance on December 3 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
