A member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of discharging a loaded firearm at another man with intent to murder him.
It is alleged that on November 21 at 100 Republic and D’Andrade streets, Georgetown, Allister Woolford, 20, discharged a loaded firearm at Devon Howell with intent to murder him.
Woolford was not required to plead to the indictable charge read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the George-town Magistrate’s Courts’.
Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru, objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and also because Howell is known to Woolford and is still hospitalized in a critical condition. Mangru stated that it’s possible that if bail was granted to Woolford he might not return for his trial.
However, Woolford’s attorney asked the court to grant him bail in a reasonable sum.
Howell was shot to his neck on the afternoon of November 21 while he and his friends were “playing with a gun” in a house on D’Andrade Street, a corner away from where Howell resides.
Woolford was remanded to prison and is to make his next court appearance on December 2 at Court 3.
