Sammy helps struggling Titans to second win

BENONI, South Africa, CMC – West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy had small cameo roles as his Titans managed only their second win of the Ram Slam Twenty20 League with a 19-run victory over Dolphins here yesterday.

Opting to bat first at Willowmoore Park, Titans rallied to 176 for seven off 20 overs, with Qaasim Adams top-scoring with 76 from 53 balls, with nine fours and two sixes.

Opener Henry Davids chipped in with 32 from 31 deliveries while Sammy smashed West Indies teammate Dwayne Bravo for two sixes in the last over of the innings, to end on 15 not out from five balls.

Bravo finished with one for 42 from four overs while seamer Craig Alexander led with two for 24.

In reply, Dolphins plunged to 75 for five in the 12th over before Bravo came to their rescue with a top score of 34. He faced just 18 balls and lashed three sixes, adding 49 for the sixth wicket with Khaya Zondo who made 25 from 17 deliveries.

Skipper Sammy, however, ended Bravo’s brave rally in the 17th over with the score on 124 for six and also sent back Zondo in the penultimate over, as Dolphins’ threat subsided. Sammy finished with two for 29 from his four overs of medium pace.

Titans lie one from bottom on 11 points.
