Dear Editor,
We are blessed in Guyana to have so many radio frequencies, and I, like many others, listen to radio. It is always a joy to tune into some station to hear the soothing voices of artists and presenters. I myself have a few friends who are presenters at the radio station, and they are doing a wonderful task of speaking so well and transferring their knowledge to the nation. I would like to extend my kudos to all radio presenters and technicians who work at the stations. I enjoy music a lot, and it’s always a joy to sing along with some of the country soul artists especially, if I have to drive far. But too much music and no stuff makes jack dull.
Time again I tune into LBC (Leading Britain’s Conversation) radio frequency online. It is really a fantastic and mind-boggling radio station. The presenters are very experienced in their own and other fields, like Nick Ferrari, Iain Dale, Petrie Hoskin, Julia Hartley, Nick Abbot, and so on. What makes this station most interesting is that they have a few political leaders as their presenters like Ken Livingston, the former Mayor of London and Nick Clegg, the deputy prime minister of the UK. This station is no joke; they are serious about listening to the voices of the people. The people can call in and talk to the political leaders themselves and get a response from them. I still remember having asked a few questions to Boris Johnson, Mayor of London whilst I was there. This makes the radio station more people oriented when our elected leaders can hear us speak to them and they clarify our concerns.
“Since public opinion exercises the greatest power and authority today in every sphere of life, both private and public, every member of society must fulfil the demands of justice and charity. As a result, all must strive, through these media as well, to form and spread sound public opinion” (Inter Mirifica, the Catholic Church Document). This public opinion has to be spoken aloud and heard by the concerned authorities because the authorities are elected by the public to help people live a happy life.
We would like to see a radio station like LBC where a presenter is free to talk on any matters concerning the people; a presenter must be free without anyone pulling his bridle if he/she speaks about certain leaders of the nation. We want to see a popular radio station to which every member of the public feels free to call in and raise concerns. We would like to see a radio station in which we see our leaders responding to our calls and concerns.
Yours faithfully,
JM Dias
