Melanie Patriots overcame the Georgetown Knights by a 63-59 score line when the Colts/Phillip George Memorial Basketball tournament continued on Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Floyd Arthur was the principal scoring threat for the East Coast Demerara outfit, registering a game high 21 points. Meanwhile, Owan Walton led the Georgetown unit in a losing effort with 15 points.
In the opening exhibition third division match-up, Plaisance Guardians squeaked past Pepsi Sonics by a 62-59 margin. Colwyn Nurse led the offensive for the winners with a game high 24 points which included five three pointers. Kerwin Jackson netted 15 points in the loss.
Action is set to continue on Sunday at the same venue with four slated match-ups. In the feature showdown of the night, Trinity Grid Pacesetters will face-off with arch-rivals Dynas Ravens at 10.30pm. The winner will advance to the knockout stage.
In third fixture at 8.30pm, Republic Bank Nets will match skills with GT Masters led by tournament leading scorer Lugard Mohan, who has netted a combined 71 points over three rounds.
The second match-up at 6.30pm will witness tourney hosts Colts battling Pepsi Sonics in a top of the group clash while in the opening game of the night, Melanie Patriots will lock horns with Linden unit Victory Valley Royals from 4.30pm.
