T&T Security Minister denies US$7 million CPL proposal

(Trinidad Guardian) National Security Minister Gary Griffith has denied that he submitted or is involved in a proposal before Cabinet, seeking the approval of US$7 million (TT$42 million) in support of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for 2015 and 2016.

A release from the T&T Cricket Board (T&TCB), published in Wednesday’s Guardian, claimed that Griffith was involved in a Cabinet proposal which was seeking US$7 million towards the staging of the semi-finals and final of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 for two years.

However, Griffith denied he was involved in any proposal of a sporting nature or one that involved the CLP. “If I do, however, it must involved all the stakeholders which include the minister of sport and the sporting discipline, which is cricket. How can I submit a sport proposal to the Cabinet? That’s the responsibility of the line minister who is the minister of sport. He’s the person to table such a request.”

The T&TCB release which said officials of the organisation was amazed at the development, claimed the proposal was making the rounds on social media.

But Griffith said there was absolutely no truth to the T&TCB release.
