ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Liam Sebastien’s five-wicket haul coupled with Devon Smith’s unbeaten half-century kept Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the doldrums on the opening day of their third round match in the WICB Professional Cricket League here yesterday.
Off-spinner Sebastien, the Windward Islands Volcanoes skipper, claimed five for 39 to send the Leewards tumbling for an inadequate 109 in their first innings at the National Stadium.
He was supported by left-arm spinner Alston Bobb who kept up his fine start to the season with four for 31.
Only opener Austin Richards with 44 got past 20 as the Leewards slipped from 50 for one to lose their last nine wickets for just 59 runs.
Richards’s knock was a cameo one, coming from just 45 balls and included eight boundaries.
Smith then carried the Windwards into the lead with a smooth unbeaten 83, as the hosts finished the day on 170 for three.
The left-hander has so far faced 121 balls, batted 205 minutes and cracked eight fours and two sixes, as he closed in on his 24th first class hundred.
He put on 81 for the second wicket with Johnson Charles who struck 40 from 76 balls with two fours and two sixes, and a further 75 for the third wicket with Sunil Ambris who made 33.
The Windwards lead by 70 runs.
