Berbice Football Association (BFA) President Clay Flatts has officially tendered his resignation, citing a lack of administrative time due to his work commitments as the main reason for him demitting office.
Speaking exclusively to Stabroek Sport, Flatts said, “It’s a personal matter which doesn’t afford me the time to function properly as the president of Berbice. I just don’t want to carry around the title, if I am there I should function as the president in every aspect.”
He further said “I don’t have the time to continue in the post. There is no misunderstanding, I am just working seven days a week and won’t have the time to devote to football. I prefer to give up the post so that someone who has the time can take up the mantle.”
Asked if there was any possibility of him retuning to an administrative post in the foreseeable future, he said “Actually I don’t have the interest now. Maybe in a few years it is possible but not before three years. My contract would not give me the time to devote to the sport.”
Questioned if he still plans to be involved in the sport in another capacity, Flatts said, “I will continue to be the President of Monedderlust FC but at the association level which is more demanding, I will not have the time at the moment. I will support whoever is in office and give whatever input I can give.”
