Former Head of UG Tain campus joins AFC

Former Director of the University of Guyana’s Tain, Berbice Campus, Professor Daizal Samad has joined the Alliance For Change (AFC), making a public appearance at the party’s rally in Whim, Berbice on Saturday.

“The AFC offers the kind of newness that Guyanese need desperately,” Dr. Samad told Stabroek News yesterday while adding that he joined the party because he believes that they are the only party that can utilise talent and “the constructive and implementable ideas that people like me have.”

He said that joining the AFC took years of consideration on his part. “One of the triggers however, was that I was invited into the party by its leaders,” he said, adding that the approach was appealing. “It is about treatment with dignity,” he said.

Samad said that the PNC and PPP had multiple chances at governance that ought to have brought development and great prosperity to the nation but the PNC was woeful in its performance and the PPP is at best, inadequate with scandals and corruption being the hallmark of both parties.

On the other hand, the AFC offers the kind of newness that Guyana needs and is the only political party capable of attracting talent and putting that talent to use, he said. According to Samad, the AFC knows that a nation is not built on broken promises.

In the coming weeks, the AFC will be putting forward clearly defined, articulate and coherent policies and programmes in all areas, Samad said. He disclosed that he is currently working on these plans which will cover, among other areas, the agriculture and energy sectors. He noted that through years of working in other countries, he has contacts internationally who can make these areas a thriving reality in Guyana.

Samad spoke at an AFC rally at Whim on Saturday and said that it will be “non-stop until we win.”

“The AFC is no longer a small party. The AFC will win the elections, I am confident of it,” he said adding that the party will keep its promises and govern with humility and respect.

Earlier, AFC Leader Khemraj Ramjattan had hailed Samad. “He comes with a lot of credentials behind him,” he told Stabroek News while adding that he is a very bright and genteel person and very policy oriented. He said that Samad and his credentials will propel the AFC a long way. He related several statements made by Samad which he said were impacting. “He is in it not for the power, but wanting to serve,” Ramjattan said.
