Delwin Reid, accused of robbing an acquaintance of an iPhone in a knife-point hold-up, was yesterday remanded to prison although his lawyer claimed the victim was willing to accept compensation.
Reid appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with armed robbery.
It is alleged that on April 5, 2014, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown, being armed with a knife and in the company of another, Reid robbed Dylon David of an Apple iPhone 4S, valued $90,000.
Reid pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His attorney, Paul Fung-A-Fat, told the court that David was willing to accept a total of $190,000 for compensation and to end to the matter.
However, Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail based on the fact that Reid was charged before for a similar offence and is also curreently on bail for another.
Grant told the court that on the day in question, Reid, who is well known to David, approached him with another person on Freeman Street.
They were armed with a knife and at that time David had the iPhone in his hand. He said Reid placed a knife to David’s back and relieved him of the article, after which they both made good their escape on a motorcycle. The robbery was reported and acting on information received Reid was charged and admitted to the offence, the prosecutor also said.
As a result, Reid was remanded to prison and is to make his next court appearance tomorrow, when the case will be called before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
