The woman who was struck down by a sand truck at Agricola Public Road succumbed to her injures two days later.
Dead is Fatima Jamal, 62, of Lot 181 Caesar Street, Agricola. The elderly woman was struck by the truck while she was crossing the road to go home, after leaving her Alpha Hotel job a few blocks away.
Jamal had been connected to a life support machine, in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was rushed on Friday. She had sustained severe brain damage and injuries to her hands and legs.
The accident occurred around 7 am on the Agricola Public Road and according to reports, Jamal was struck by the alleged speeding truck driver. That driver has since been released on bail after a 72-hour detention.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be done tomorrow, the woman’s daughter Amani Jamal told Stabroek News.
The police are still investigating the most recent road fatality, adding to the 113 road fatalities for the year so far.
