The Ministry of Tourism on Monday presented awards to companies that won the ‘Best Booth’ competition at GuyExpo 2014, which attracted a large number of corporate sponsors.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) report said the companies competed in the micro, small, medium and large categories at the exposition, which was held at the Sophia Exhibition Site from October 2 to 5.
Indranauth Haralsingh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), announced that Salto Trading won in the micro category, the Guyana Power and Light won in the small category, the National Communications Network won in the medium category and E-Networks won in the large category.
In giving a breakdown of the grading, Haralsingh said six criteria were used, valued 10 points each. These were: creativity and originality; use of products/images; staff enthusiasm/interaction; neatness; presentation/overall experience that a visitor would have; and the availability of tokens (products, coupons) for patrons. Staff manning the booths were also required to be outfitted in a uniform with an affixed logo and the booths were expected to be opened throughout the exposition. He also said that the best booths adhered to the criteria and this caused them to be outstanding.
“Your exhibit was outstanding; it created a lasting impression and originality … patrons were being appealed to by all of their senses…” the GTA head said. “The friendliness that patrons received at your booths would have helped them to visit your company to transact their business,” he added.
Meanwhile, Co-Chairman of the GuyExpo Committee Derrick Cummings said the GuyExpo is the biggest public event held to generate publicity for businesses, forge linkages with small business entities and large buyers, which aid in expanding markets and attracting investors. He noted that in the past GuyExpo only showcased private sector events, but now government agencies also take the opportunity to exhibit their products and services to the public.
The four-day event, which attracted close to 30,000 people each night and featured 116 foreign exhibiting delegations, was dubbed a resounding success.
