A miner who allegedly dealt his wife several punches to her head after she reportedly told him that she went to seek professional counselling to save their marriage, was yesterday released on $20,000 bail and placed on a bond.
Jairam Perry, 36, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 1, at 55 Barr Street, Albouystown, he assaulted Juanita Perry.
Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who represented the accused, pleaded for the magistrate to be lenient with the defendant, adding that the man loves his wife very much. Perry quickly affirmed, “Yeah, I love her very much,” from the prisoners’ dock.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones who did not object to bail, said that the defendant dealt several cuffs to his wife’s head. Jones added that the defendant is reportedly in a habit of abusing the woman.
When asked by Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan, who presided over the matter, if indeed she was habitually being abused by her husband, the woman said no. “I went for counselling to save our marriage, since we were getting problems. And when I come back and he ask me weh a went, and I told him, he start cuff me,” she stated.
Fung-A-Fat said there was no black and blue mark on the woman, which suggests probably that “it was just a thump on the head.”
Perry was subsequently placed on $20,000 bail and placed in a bond to keep the peace until the completion of his trial.
He returns to court on December 9 at Court 6.
