Remanded prisoner Rudolph London was yesterday fined $20,000 along with six months imprisonment when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with possession of narcotics.
The charge against London, 43, of 109 Best Village, West Coast Demerara, read that on November 23 at the Georgetown Prison he had in his possession 3.5 grammes of cannabis.
London pleaded guilty to the charge read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, on the day in question at about 16:15 hrs London returned to the Georgetown Prison where a search was conducted by a prison officer. In London’s right hand there was a clear Ziploc bag which contained leaves, seeds and stems. London was told of the suspicion after which the cannabis was weighed. He was then charged subsequently.
London told the court, “I in prison for four years now. I find it on the ground and when I tell the officer he say is me own. I am very sorry, my Worship.”
After listening to the facts presented in court the magistrate sentenced London to six months imprisonment along with a fine of $20,000.
