While the PPP leader continues to be unreasonable towards the nation and the majority opposition with the infantile act of prorogation and frog-marching the nation into a dictatorship, a nugget of gold dropped into our hands.
In Cali, Colombia, one of our very own, 17-year-old Jason Yaw broke the meet record in the 400 metres at the World Youth Championship. Running at an altitude of some 950 metres above sea-level (very different from Guyana), this young man flew the Guyana flag with a golden run of 46.79 seconds.
It would be delightful if we had a pause in this political war and at a minimum commit the following to this young man:
- a cost of living grant of $50,000 per month so he can live, train and bring home a gold for Guyana at the Olympics;
- working hard for him to get a sports scholarship so he can refine his technique and unleash his potential;
- making sure that if his mother does not have her own home, then that family should be awarded a free house lot, and in a joint effort with the private sector, build them their home so that the family is well housed and thus provided with a good environment to nurture and protect this diamond.
In a milieu of so much negative news coming out of Guyana, let us all work together on this project to polish this diamond so that it can shine globally. The nation really needs this injection of good news into its bloodstream.
