I refer to the reprint of a Swedish article which appeared in Kaieteur News of December 4, captioned ‘The Gold Rush is leaving wounds that never heal,’ and in which remarks made allegedly by me about the local mining sector were quoted.
First of all I would like to stringently reject the information presented since it is totally inaccurate.
Quite recently I have been asked for interviews by several media entities that have been coming into Guyana. However I am not dealing with the mining sector directly and have publicly said that the mining sector is handled by another entity.
I am very stringent with respect to these interviews and request a copy sent to me before it is published. For example, The Washington Post interviewed me over one week ago and has sent the article for my vetting. Regardless of the issues with respect to the publication, and the media calling every day for this article I will not release it until I am satisfied that it reflects correctly the information given to them.
I firmly believe that this is an effort is to tarnish my relationship with the government. I wish to reiterate my loyalty to the current government and will not indulge in this kind of nonsense since I believe that this does not represent misreporting of what I said but is linked to the current political situation in Guyana.
