Hikers and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Lady Tigers continued their respective unbeaten streaks when the Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival continued on Saturday at the National Gymnasium.
In the men’s division matchup, Pepsi Hikers defeated Old Fort 6-2. Jamarj Assanah led the scoring for the winners with a double while Travon Younge, Devin Munroe, Andrew Stewart and Michael Harding contributed solo efforts in the run. On target for the losers with solo strikes were Stephon King and Jason DeSantos. In their second fixture, Hikers defeated Renegades 8-0. Assanah was the main scorer once again as he netted a hat-trick while Munroe was the next best scorer with a double. On target with solitary strikes was Shane Samuels, Randy Hope and Younge. In their third fixture, Hikers brushed aside GCC by a 7-2 score line led by doubles from Assanah and France. Completing the win with solo efforts was Munroe, Stewart and Samuels. Scoring in a losing cause with a double was Kevin Spencer. With the wins, Hikers will now face off with the National u-19 setup in the semi-final round after they defeated Renegades 5-1.
Mark Sergeant netted a double while Kareem McKenzie, Aroydy Branford and Daniel Hooper sealed the win with solo conversions.
Scoring for the Renegades was Dwight McCalman. In their second matchup, the National u-19 side defeated Saints 5-2. Branford and Leon Bacchus led the winners with a hat-trick and double respectively while Kevin Edwards and Joel Hunte scored for the losers.
In the Ladies division, GCC Tigers compliments of five-goal haul from Ashley DeGroot and a hat-trick from Sonia Jardine pounced on Old Fort Shooting Stars 10-0. Trisha Woodroffe and Kerensa Fernandes sealed the win with solo strikes.
The final female matchup saw Spice crushing Hikers 3-0 compliments of a double from Aliyah Gordon and one from Tricia Fiedtkou. In the veteran’s section, Old Fort clinched their berth to the finale as they defeated Carib Hockey Club of Trinidad by a 5-3 score line. They will now face off with Hikers.
In other results, GCC defeated Saints in their men’s divisional fixture 8-0 compliments of doubles from Spencer, Raphael DeGroot and Leonard George. Andrew Xavier and Steven Xavier sealed the win with a goal apiece.
Continuing in the same division, GFF edged National u-19 by a 4-3 margin compliments of a Stephen Xavier hat-trick and an Orland Semple effort. Scoring for the losers was Branford with a double and Sergeant with a solo goal. Due to the wins, GCC will tackle Old Fort in the other men’s semi-final. In the fourth matchup of the division, Old Fort defeated Saints by a 7-5 score line. Stephon Sprosta was on target with a hat-trick for Old Fort while Aderemi Simon netted a double. Netting solitary goals to complete the win was DeSantos, Mark Fraser and Stephon King.
Netting in the loss was Robert Fernandes, Yonnick Peters, Taise Seepaul, Kwesi Lewis and Joel Hunte. In their third matchup, Old Fort defeated Renegades 4-1 through a brace from DeSantos and solo goals from Thomas and Askofu Simon. Scoring in the loss was Dylan Francis.
