Bosai, workers’ union agree to retroactive 6.5% wage hikes

The Management of Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) Incorporated (BMGG) and the union representing the employees have reached an agreement on increases in wages and salaries.

According to a joint statement, an increase of 6.5% across the board for employees within the bargaining unit along with a $550 snack allowance, retroactive to April 1st, 2014, was agreed to by the BMGG and the National Association of Agricultural Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE).

The agreement was signed between the BMGG and NAACIE last Friday at the Watooka House, Linden.

Signing on behalf of the company was the General Manager of BMGG, Robert Shang; Accounting Super-intendent Andy Hao; Senior Personnel Officer Truedel Marks and Assis-tant Community Relations Officer Vanessa Mitchell-Davis.

Signing on behalf of NAACIE were General Secretary Kenneth Joseph; Vice-President and Branch Chairman Linnell Warden; Vice Chairman Orin Tieshmaker; Secretary Aggrey Darlington; Assis-tant Secretary Neptrid Hercules; and Committee Member Trevor Henry.

The workers took strike action in early October after claiming that they were forced to work 10 to 12 hours a day, contrary to their eight hours a day labour agreement, while some workers had been fired and others suspended after they went home after a regular eight-hour shift. Claims of unreasonable allowances were also made by the employees.
