Sherwin Sunich, 33, was on Monday placed on $25,000 bail after he denied stealing a phone belonging to former University of Guyana Pro-Chancellor Dr Prem Misir.
The charge against Sunich, of Lot 106 South Sophia, is that on November 26, at Georgetown, he stole a BlackBerry Torch smartphone, valued at $120,000, belonging to Misir.
Sunich pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read to him by city magistrate Ann McLennan.
Attorney Mark Conway indicated to the court that his client was placed on $10,000 station bail and was not a flight risk.
However, while Prosecutor Deniro Jones had no objections to bail, he noted that the phone was not recovered. Sunich was granted bail and is to make his next court appearance on January 6 before Magistrate Dylon Bess.
